Frequently Asked Questions
This has been a hell of a long time coming, but it is very obviously needed. I’m not trying to be salty; this is a good resource for any of you who aren’t sure about something on the site. However, I recommend that you take a GOOD long read of the information present before you come here, and make sure you come here before asking the staff something. If we get hit with a question that can be answered by checking here, your points are going to go BOOM.
That being said, this is very much a work in progress, if you feel like a question should be added to the F.A.Q, hit me up in dms, I’ll do what i can to fit it in! Any of the questions that are found in the introduction page are omitted from this F.A.Q, so read that too.

"Can I have more than one magic tree?"
Yes, but not right away. When you initially pitch your application, you’ll start with ONE single tree (or sub-branch of a tree, such as picking Pyromancy from Elementalism, etc.), and rank it up. Once you reach the rank of expert mage in your primary tree, you may gain access to a secondary tree that can rank no higher than mage. These trees can not be mixed together (exceptions include post highmage rankups). |
"Can I just save up and buy a rank for its listed price?"
No. Ranks are bought one at a time, although if you save up enough points to buy each of them, you may do this. For example, the listed price for apprentice is 30 points, and the listed price for beginner mage is 50 points. This does not mean you can jump straight to beginner mage with 50 points, rather you must spend 30 on apprentice, and then 50 on beginner mage, totaling out to 80 points. |
"Is it snowing-"
For fuck’s sake, no. It is most certainly not snowing. Although Ulreich is a little colder than the rest of the Isles, they all exist in a tropical environment, meaning no snow. |
"When are tallies done?"
Tallies are typically started every Friday, and usually finish by Saturday or Sunday. This is subject to change during certain weeks however, as my work schedule is horribly inconsistent and I may have to postpone tallies to accommodate for this. |
"When are points updated?"
Refer to above. |
"How do I know when I can do a daily post again?"
Base it off the time shown in the #current-time channel. Because I’m in the Newfoundland time zone, our tallies are based on that. If you post at 12am your time, but it’s actually past 12 for me, those activities will be counted for the next day, and the reverse is also true. |
"How do I know what time it is I.C when I post?"
Well, you can use the clock found in #current-time to base the time in your post, but it's not required. Wanna post about being in the sun, but it’s 4am on the clock? Who cares, it’s rp. |
"Do I need a character sheet?"
No, you aren’t required to have a character sheet, although it’d be better if you did. Make sure it’s accurate to your Ulreich character, however. People who link their character sheets to the page have a chance of earning bonus points on random tallies. |
"Can someone teach me spells?"
Technically yes, but there is a LOT to consider about this. There are universal spells, which are taught by teachers during class events. If your character has not attended these events, but still wish to learn the spell, you may be taught by a teacher, or any student who was in the original class that the spell was taught. As for other mages spells? No. The only exception is that you may pitch another students spell (of the same tree as your own, and WITH THEIR EXACT PERMISSION TO DO SO) as if they were teaching it to you, and it can either be bought with points, or free rank up spells. |
"What do you mean by ‘up to 3 spells’, ‘up to 5 spells’ etc?"
When approvers go over your free spells for certain ranks, they go into it with a “slot concept” in mind. A slot concept means that your ‘up to 3’ free spells are actually 3 slots, and your spells will be approved and priced with both point values and slots. This means you may pitch three spells, but if one is a little powerful, it might be approved for 2 slots. This means you can only get this spell, and one other with your free paige slots, as 2+1 = 3. The others can still be bought for points, however. |
"I want to craft a weapon in the Smith's Lodge! Can I do this?"
You most certainly can! Please attempt to message a moderator about whatever weapon you plan on crafting beforehand, though. In case you can't, here's a few ground rules for you to know. If you want to be able to craft the weapon without paying anything for it, it has to be a simple design (no whipblades, or dark souls weapons, lads) and can only attain IRON toughness. Anything beyond this toughness (see the toughness scale in #character-creation-guide for a reference) or overly complicated has to be pitched and bought with points. |
"These monsters on the Bestiary are cool! Can I use them in my own interactions?"
Yes, you can use them in your own -- non dm'd -- role play. However, there are a few rules to this as well. Every interaction with a creature of mage rank (solo) and above must be requested to a staff member. You have to tell them exactly who is fighting, their ranks, and the amount of enemies you plan to fight. Any creature that is high mage rank (solo) or above must be dm'd by a staff member. There are special exceptions to these rules for trusted members, but unless we’ve told you so, assume you’re not part of this group. When checking the bestiary, note the credits for the monsters on the bottom of the page. If there is none, it means it was made by me! Whenever using creatures, it's probably for the best to contact the creator about them first. It's not necessarily required, but there's no law against being a dick, and most people try not to be dicks, right? |
"Do I really have to read all of the site? Isn't this F.A.Q enough?"
Well, the F.A.Q is probably enough to keep you from getting a quick ban or losing most of your points when you fuck up, but if you want to avoid making mistakes as much as possible, reading the site is most likely necessary. Honestly, I don't understand why this has to be put on the F.A.Q. The staff and I put a lot of effort into keeping this place updated, and keeping the story as interesting as possible. It's really ungrateful when people decide that it's too much work to read, when they're actively participating in a reading/writing based game. So yeah, if you don't read the site, you might not get caught on it right away; you might not even get points taken away. However, I will consider this an act of laziness, and will make sure to avoid choosing you for any particular staff or moderator positions. |
"Can I start at a higher ran-"
No. |
"But what about-"
No (: |
”That's not fai-”
Well, with that opinion in mind: No. (: |
