Terms & Keywords
If you're new to magic school role plays, you may hear a few words or terms you don't understand. Fear not, this page is meant for new role players who may have some questions about what exactly we're talking about.
Medium- An object through which a mage may channel their spells. (Holy Equipment, Artifacts, and hexed objects are not mediums.)
Mana Type- Various trees possess mana which is not Normal Mana, which is the mana used by all mages. Trees which possess these types of mana have their own unique mana type. The mana types are as follows:
Fire Mana (Pyromancy)- Mana which manifests itself as fire. Unlocked at Paige.
Water Mana (Aquamancy)- Mana which manifests itself as water. Unlocked at Paige.
Wind Mana (Aeromancy)- Mana which manifests itself as wind. Unlocked at Paige.
Earth Mana (Geomancy)- Mana which manifests itself as dirt, mud, dust, etc.. Unlocked at Paige.
Ice Mana (Cryomancy)- Mana which manifests itself as ice or snow. Unlocked at Paige.
Lightning Mana (Electromancy)- Mana which manifests itself as electricity. Unlocked at Paige.
Soul Fire (Necromancy)- An ethereal flame which burns the soul rather than the body. Effects of damaging the soul vary from mage to mage. Unlocked at Paige.
Physical Mana (Forcient)- Physical Mana is the base mana type for each of the Forcient trees. Unlike other mana types, Physical Mana manifests as a measurable, tangible force rather than an energy. This results in a strange phenomena; Physical Mana is particularly efficient when acting against solid materials, but is not particularly efficient against non-solids such as viscous liquids, gels, or energy/ethereal substances. Unlocked at Mage.
Arcane Energy (Magus Manatist)- A very hostile form of mana purified to the craziest degree possible. about as good as it gets, both with a great combination of raw power and effect. Arcane energy produces a strange grinding effect against objects that it strikes, or objects that otherwise strike it. This grinding effect is intense enough to burrow through ALL solid forms of matter. Unlocked at Expert Mage.
Faith Mana (Faith)- Mana which cannot do damage in any form. This mana is usually very warm and pleasant, and sometimes even gives off relaxing scents. Unlocked at Paige.
Soul Force (Spiritualism)- A form of mana which may heal the soul, and even flesh to some extent. Unlocked at Mage.
Lunar Energy (Druidism)- A powerful form of mana that can inflict coldburn, freezing the innards of a person while simultaneously burning their ski. This can cause extreme necrotic damage in certain scenarios, and is unlocked once a Druid hits Expert Mage.
Mana Corruption- Although mana is considered to be a natural substance by many creatures throughout the realms, it is still possible for an overload of the energy to create corruption in certain areas. Mages will find that spells exerting large quantities of mana (such as Aoe spells) will cause the air to become very thick and heavy; this is not mana corruption itself, but this is how it can begin. Many areas around the world that were hosts to massive magical battles have become corrupted due to the constant use of magic within them. Mana corruption acts similar to radiation, as it can build up within most organic creatures and sicken them over time. Mana corruption has been rumored to cause creatures and people to mutate, although these rumors have yet to be proven.
