Ulreich University Rules
click on the tabs below to cycle through the two major rule sets for Ulreich University. PLEASE READ THEM CAREFULLY. Ignorance of the rules will not constitute lenience if you break them...In fact, it'll probably get you in even more trouble.
1: Don't insert yourself into someone's role play. When in a safe zone (locations in the rp where there are lots of witnesses and guards who can generally protect people from danger) it is considered rude to just jump into someone’s interaction without asking them o.o.c first. You won’t get banned for this, but it's a dick move and they can ignore you as long as you’re not initiating combat. In a non-safe zone (areas that are large and unregulated, or places that can not as easily be moderated by authorities) this rule does not apply. People you run into must be interacted with, and you cannot simply ignore someone if they approach you there.
2: Although the murder of other characters is not against the rules, be certain you know how to go about it. Killing anyone in a method that would leave evidence (doing it in safe-zones, not properly hiding the body, making a lot of noise, or exposing yourself to witnesses) will most likely get you caught. If your character is caught by the general public with absolute proof, not only will you be marked for capture and/or death I.C, you will also lose points O.O.C as well. If you manage to kill someone without being caught, or if the reason for the killing is justified, you will escape both these punishments. That being said, try not to go around murderhoboing without a good reason, yeah? You’ll look like a dick, and it will probably get you killed in the long run.
3: The safety of students is not guaranteed outside of safe zones, and sometimes this is true in safe zones as well. Teachers will not miraculously sweep in to save you if you get yourself into trouble. Most teacher characters will do their best to protect their students (though this is not guaranteed) but they are not omnipotent beings. If they -- or other students -- have a justifiable reason for showing up in your defense, then that’s fine, but you can’t just expect someone to suddenly know where you are and investigate if you find yourself up a creek without a paddle.
4: Make sure anything you use in the role play is approved. If you ignore this rule you will lose points, spells, ranks, and if the issue continues, you might even be banned from the server altogether.
5: No "Godmodding", "Auto hitting", "Bunnying", "Metagaming", or any other behaviors not normally accepted within role play.
|
5a: Godmodding is unfair use of your characters powers and similar actions. As stated in rule 4, all spells, abilities, and equipment must be approved beforehand. Failing to listen to these approvals will result in point or rank reductions, or possibly a ban.
|
5b: Auto hitting is the act of assuming an attack has instantly landed on an opponent without giving them a chance to react or avoid the attack. Be sure to avoid specific wordings in your post. Ex: "She punched him in the face" is not acceptable, but "She aimed a punch to land against his face" is.
|
5c: "Bunnying" is the act of using multiple attacks in a singular post. Ulreich is typically relaxed when dealing with this (you may cast multiple spells in one post), but be realistic. If your post requires you to avoid an attack within a few seconds, you shouldn't be able to cast 8 spells.
|
5d: "Metagaming" is the act of having your character aware of information that they shouldn't be. For example, if you learn in the ooc chat that a mage is a pyromancer, your character shouldn't just be able to know this I.C.
6: At any time, anyone may request that a Moderator review RP. Facilities are deemed by Moderator's alone along with the corrective course taken. Once a moderator has given their judgement on how a certain interaction should be handled, you will have to abide by their rules. If you feel they are being unfair, you can bring the issue directly to the server owner, but if a majority of staff agree, then the say is final.
7: While Staff are acting as Game Masters they are not necessarily bound by the preceding rules.
8: NPCs do exist in safe areas and possibly in non-safe zones. Action taken against them will cause appropriate reactions from them, teachers and other students, and if applicable, punishment.
9: Rank or tree is not normally publicly known information. However the rank or tree of another can be learned through RP.
10: Things of value or use may not simply be happened across, such an occurrence must be discussed with an admin.
11: Most rooms have a minor description, please stick within the reasonable limit of that room. If there are exceptions to this rule, such rooms will be marked. MAKE SURE TO CHECK AN RP ROOMS PINS. Pins will contain a basic description of the area, as well as any important information you must know before roleplaying there. Failure to do this does not free you from consequences.
12: NPC's controlled by players are allowed, but to certain extents. Long term npcs may not possess racial abilities, or spells of any sort (unless discussed and pre approved by a moderator), but are allowed to interact with students and others. The amount of npcs you can control is limited, ALWAYS ASK A STAFF MEMBER BEFORE CREATING OR USING NPC'S.
13: ANY free equipment created by a character without prior approval must be a simple design and only of Iron toughness or below. Refer to the toughness scale (in #character-creation-guide) if you are unsure about toughness scales.
14: Although using the creatures from the bestiary is highly encouraged, any scenario with creatures that have a solo rank of mage and above must be approved by a staff member. This does not have to be pitched, simply message a staff member with the group of mages involved (as well as their ranks and trees) and the type and number of creatures in the battle. If the staff member gives the go ahead, then everything is fine. If they do not give the go ahead, and you do the interaction anyway, a number of things could happen. If a staff member finds out afterwards, they have the right to take points and ranks from your character. If they catch you in the middle of the fight, they have the right to take over control of the monsters, and eviscerate you as they see fit.
15: When role playing with groups of people, one may find that a particular person disappears, or is not able to post for quite some time. If your characters are NOT INVOLVED IN A COMBAT SCENARIO, you may simply have your character post out of turn to leave. If involved in combat, you must NOT assume attacks land, or leave a fight in progress because of a person's inability to post. If you feel locked, or in an unfair situation, contact a moderator, and exceptions will be made depending on the circumstance.
16: During certain scenarios, players are able to act as game masters for themselves or others. In these situations, a few precautions must be made:
|
16a. Always ask a moderator before gming your own interactions. Approval must be given beforehand, and you must explain to the moderator the extent of what you plan to add to the scenario (enemy mages / monsters).
|
16b.Any other players involved must be informed that a scenario is going to take place. You are not required to give all information to the participants, but they must be made aware if they are entering a high risk situation.
|
16c: Any enemy mages must have their basic abilities (spells) outlined to a moderator, as well as their rank and tree. In the event a participant feels as if the abilities shown by the npc are unfair, they may request a moderator inspect the interaction and take action if necessary.

1: Avoid attitude and drama in the ooc chats. Roasting friends and typical banter is allowed, but if it's one sided or obviously a real argument being brought into the chat, it will be dealt with accordingly. If you are experiencing issues with harassment or anything of this nature, please message a staff member WITH EVIDENCE (such as screencaps) and information on how best to handle the situation.
2: Don't argue with mods, as this will just end up in you getting banned or muted in the O.O.C. If you have reason to believe a moderator is acting unfairly, message the server owner with information and proof of these allegations. If you believe the server owner himself is acting unfairly...Start a coup?
3: Posting outside links is fine, but please do not advertise other places/things/etc. in the ooc without permission from a moderator.
4: NSFW content (gore, pornography, suggestive images) is not allowed in the OOC, or anywhere else unless specified otherwise.
5: Blatant racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, transphobia, or any sort of derogatory bullshit will earn you a swift kick in the genitals. Making jokes and whatnot is fine (though if someone is uncomfortable, don’t be a dick about it, just stop) but if things get too excessive, you will get very little warning before you’re booted.
6: Points, and rankings are typically updated weekly, please do not bug staff about it consistently.
7: Spells and racial skills will be looked over by staff, but they reserve the right to make adjustments if you abuse your powers. Yes, this means that although you may have gotten something approved, staff reserve the right to call your abilities into question and nerf/adjust them accordingly.
8: Please do not rp in the ooc. This is not a heavily enforced rule, but if people ask you to stop...Stop. It's weird. NOTE: This does not include minor actions from time to time, like *hugs* etc. However, if you're in the ooc constantly meowing and patting your cat ears...Well...You know what'll happen.
9: Do not bring your OOC drama into the I.C chat. If you're mad at Billy, your character shouldn't suddenly be mad at Billy's character. This is technically a form of metagaming, and will cost you points and ranks if repeated.
10: Also known as "Masamune's Law", please request to talk to a staff member / approver before spamming their message box with questions, especially if it's about things that wont be granted to your character until much, much, later. Either ask a staff member in the ooc if you can ask them some questions, or leave them a dm with the request before starting. If you continue to break this rule (unless the approver is alright with you doing so) over and over again, the approver has the right to deny any of your pitches, effectively leaving you without the ability to learn new spells. If you feel as if the approver has overreacted, contact the server owner to see if you can appeal the punishment.
11: Also known as “Jerry’s Law” do not pitch things if you are going to want to repitch them immediately. If you want to rework a spell, or a medium, or anything else this is typically fine if some time has passed since its original creation, but do not make an approver go through all the work to help you with something just to retry it a few days later. In addition, while there is no specific limit to how many things you can pitch at a time, DO NOT spam pitches. If you try to ask for fifty spells to get approved at one time, I’m not going to feel bad if your approver takes six years to get to them. The general rule of thumb is to ask your approver first if you are worried you may be pitching too much.
12: You may only create/post as APPROVED characters when using tuppers. Creation of random tuppers (without permission) will result in disciplinary action being taken against you.
13: Creating duplicate tuppers of other people’s characters (such as making a tupper with the same name / image as someone else) will result in a SWIFT ban. I have no time for this stuff, and even though it /could/ be used for some good memes, it opens up a lot of possible confusion and issues for all people involved. Don’t fuck around like that.
14: Upon breaking any of these rules, you may be given a warning by a mod. If you fail to heed the warning, you will be banned. The nature of your offense will dictate how long your ban lasts, but freaking out about it in someone’s dms will only increase its duration. If you feel as though you've been unjustly banned, report the situation to the server owner. Those who are repeatedly banned will typically find their ban times increasing. The general rule of thumb is: First ban = 24 hours, Second Ban = A week, Third Ban = Perma. This is subject to change, and may not be as severe if you're banned for minor reasons.
